Ski Instructor Course - Three valleys, FRANCE

SnowSkool’s favourite thing about the Three Valleys is the diversity of skiing and lifestyle on your doorstep. Being able to cruise slopes of the quality of those in Méribel, Val Thorens and Courchevel in one lifetime is a dream but to do it all in one day is nothing short of a sheer delight. It is the skiing equivalent of Brad Pitt/ Megan Fox (delete as appropriate) in nowt but a pair of undercrackers! 600 km of piste, 296 lifts, 16 villages, 8 resorts, three huge valleys...need I go on?

We are currently running a SPECIAL OFFER on this course. If you book a spot on the 2015 ten-week ski instructor course between 15th Feb and 15th March 2014, you will be given F-O-C a PLACE ON THE SKI FREESTYLE IMPROVER COURSE! This offer includes chalet accommodation, meals, lift tickets and 20 HOURS OF SPECIALIST FREESTYLE SKI TUITION!

Operating a ski instructor course in the world’s favourite ski area and working with a Ski School that we didn’t feel was the world’s best would be a little anti-climatic and so we 50:50’d every rail, 360’d every table-top and back-flipped every booter until we found Parallel Lines, a British Ski School based in Méribel. What clinched it for us was the knowledge that all PL ski instructors are qualified to BASI ISTD (International Ski Teachers’ Diploma) – the level at which ski instructors morph into demi-Gods! Not only that but the ski training takes place intensively over the 10 week duration, we expect you to be on snow 35 hours per week...and at the weekends too!

Although the average age tends to be around 21-22 years old, there is normally a range of 18-50ish! People who grew up skiing the Alps will often deviate towards this ski instructor course and we always have a few that have to nip home to the UK on the odd weekend or two.

Of all the SnowSkool courses, the Three Valleys programme has the strictest entry requirements. Because the BASI level 1 exam takes place in week 2, we expect you to turn up as a very strong skier. Don’t stress the technique too much as we can iron things out there but you need to be happy to ski all types of on-piste terrain with good speed and control. Because we expect you to graduate this course with your instructor qualifications and Ski School experience, a career as a ski instructor is the next logical step.

The SnowSkool Three Valleys ski instructor course includes training for two ski instructor exams - BASI level 1 and BASI level 2 - as well as a first aid qualification (British Association of Snowsports Patrollers First Aid). You also have to complete the BASI Child Protection Module as well as logging 70 hours of Ski School experience. You are probably picking up that if you are considering training as a BASI ski instructor, you have to be pretty committed to the task. And that is exactly how BASI like it – they did not get authorisation for their members to work as ski instructors in France by sending out half-baked ski teachers. Passing the BASI level 2 ski instructor exam allows you to think of yourself in pretty flattering terms!

As part of the instructor training, you will complete training in freestyle, race as well as developing your all-mountain skiing.
